Marks and Spencer (M&S) has issued a warning to their customers that their mailing list has been compromised, meaning they may be the subject of a wave of spam emails.
Epsilon, a marketing company specialising in email distribution, recently suffered a data breach that revealed the addresses of 2% of their clients. This includes M&S, as well as other big names such as the hotel chain Hilton. A spokesperson for M&S has assured that those affected by this security lapse need not worry about other personal details have been exposed.
Although no account details have been accessed, the fact that the intruders managed to obtain these large mailing lists means an influx of spam email messages to the victims is probable.
